Background
In early 2017, I embarked on a 5 month journey all across Asia, and I thought I had made the biggest mistake of my life when I forgot to bring my camera—I was wrong. The absence of my camera was challenging, but in the end I realized the most important lesson in filmmaking: it’s not about the gear, it’s all about the story. Yes, great cameras make a BIG difference—but it only gets you so far. After creating this short video, I realized the creative possibilities of merely an everyday smartphone.
Concept
The concept behind this video was inspired by Apple’s Shot on iPhone campaign, which communicates that we’re all able to capture visually stunning photos and videos with just an iPhone. I pulled only the best moments in order to maintain a proper length for digital engagement—creating a compelling story, while making it short enough to keep today’s consumers engaged throughout.
